A big disclosure came in the history of Champaran when Mahatma Gandhi came to India from South Africa after doing a tremendous work for the black community against black and white discrimination. Champaran was his first location where he held a movement that had been famous as the name of Champaran Satyagrah also it was his first counter attack to the British rule.
On the path of Gopalkrishna Gokhale, Mahatma Gandhi didn't give importance to his public lifestyle although he showed interest in understanding India at root level.
Once Dinbandhu Andrus asked to Ghandhi, " when will the content for Satyagraha come what you feel about it?
Ghandhi replied being politeness, for me giving answer to this question is tough for me. He also said, I don't think so that the context for Satyagraha will come in five years, but what I have seen in past two years has given a clear indication on how to fight their battle against British rule.
Except Champaran, there were also places where cultivation of Indigo crops were practiced, but why Champaran was highlighted in the history?
The answer to this question is, due to having overloaded taxes on King of Bettiah Raj, lands were distributed among Britishers. After this, everywhere in Champaran, Bungalow for British regional officer were made. The area owned by Britishers were taken in control and also people were meant as their slaves. Doing the work of slavery, they have to grow crops of Indio on 3 parts of their 20 part of their land.
The role of Newspaper on raising this issue at different province of India was very effective.
Before the arrival of Ghandhi to Champaran, Famous Newspaper like 'Bihar' Played a role in not only showing the truth of atrocities done by Britishers and landlords of Bihar but also appealing for research on this matter.
Newspaper like Amrit Bajar Patrika, Bharat Mitra, Hind Keshri of Nagpur, Pratap of Kanpur, Abhyudaya of ilahabad, they all demanded for revolution in retaliation. In Champaran and Bihar, this story of atrocities has been published and distributed to every individual. For gaining compensation towards farmers of Bihar, the contribution of newspapers was superior.
